Baku State University

The decision on establishment of university in Baku was made on 01 September 1919 during the assembly of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’s Parliament – a new educational center, where Europe and Asia joined was created. The University started its 1^st  educational year with two faculties – faculty of philology and medical faculty with 1094 students. Today, Baku State University offers students 16 majors with 55 bachelor and 153 master degrees.

Every year, thousands of young people do their best to pass difficult competition, to enter Baku State University: the competition is 3 persons per place of the faculty;sometimes it reaches 10 persons per place of the certain faculty. Every year 40 of the 100 best entrants, are awarded by the president of Republic of Azerbaijan for their high results in education to “presidential grant” on behalf of BSU.

Pedagogical staff is trained in mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, Azerbaijani language and literature, Russian language and literature. At the initiative of the Ministry of Education, a special incentive program for students enrolled in the teaching profession in the 2014-2015 academic year is being implemented. Thus, the Future Teacher Scholarship was established in addition to the first 300 students who earned 500 or more points at the time of enrollment and who registered first or second teaching qualifications. In the 2014-2015 academic year, 142 (47%) of the winners of the Teacher of the Future scholarship were BSU students.
"BSU is currently ranked among the top 2000 universities in the world. In the ranking of higher education institutions, the dormitory is 30% rated, and BSU is only included in this list." If the hostel problem is solved, the university may enter the top 300 universities in the world. The new student dormitory of Baku State University will be ready by 2019.

Selected candidates are called for an interview. Interviews are conducted through Skype and by Admission Committee set by Rector’s Order.
